Okay, it could be worse.
Your goal, assuming you're not a Devil, is to get out of here, preferably in the upwards direction. To do that, you must remove all your sins. If you ever get to zero sins, you get to take the golden escalator to Heaven. You really want to do this.
The good news is, your sins are halved at the end of each Day. The bad news is, each Night a Devil is going to try to guess your Cardinal Sin. If they guess correctly, your soul is theirs and you're taking the chute to Hell. You absolutely do not want this to happen.
So, you want to shorten your stay? You are allowed to make wagers with the Devils. Each wager must be between one Devil and one non-Devil. Either party can propose a wager. The matter of the wager must be something involving the game that can be determined by the moderator. (All wagers are subject to moderator approval as valid and moderator adjudication.) The value of the wager is measured in sins, to be gained or lost by the non-Devil party.
To make a wager, a player (Devil or not) must post something like this:
I wager 4 sins that Pleonast will get to 3 votes on Day 3 before sachertorte does.
The wager then becomes open. To accept another player must quote the wager in a post with their acceptance:
I accept the bet.
If it is a valid wager, the moderator will post it in the wager accounting thread. Once the moderator can determine the winner, sins will be gained or lost at that time.
Once accepted, a wager cannot be revoked, except that a wager with a non-Devil player in Heaven or Hell is automatically cancelled. If a wager has not been accepted, the player who is offering it can revoke it by quoting it and stating that they revoke it, before anyone else accepts it.
More ideas for what you can bet on (be creative!):
Whether a player is a particular alignment.
Who gets lynched on a certain Day.
How many players target a particular player.
Whether or not a player will survive a particular Night.
Whether a player has more/less/equal than a certain number of sins.
As long as the moderator has the ability to determine the winner (either immediately or some time in the future), you can bet on it. Remember, be as specific as possible with your wording and revoke wagers that you don't want taken.
Have fun and don't lose your soul!
